Firearms ownership comes with responsibility, discipline, and respect. It also comes with moments that are unintentionally hilarious. Anyone who has spent enough time around guns, hunters, ranges, or gun shops knows this truth.
At Lebeau Armory, we see it every week. And yes, we have probably said some of these things ourselves.
“I Just Came In to Look”
This sentence has never once been true.
No one has ever walked into a gun store “just to look” and walked out unchanged. Looking turns into handling. Handling turns into questions. Questions turn into comparisons. Comparisons turn into math that makes no sense but somehow justifies the purchase.
Fifteen minutes later, you are holding a receipt and explaining to yourself that it was basically an investment.
“This Is My Last One”
Gun owners lie to themselves with optimism, not malice.
There is no such thing as a last firearm. There is only the next one. The safe gets fuller, the excuses get more creative, and suddenly you are rearranging shelves because “this one is technically a different purpose.”
At Lebeau Armory, we nod politely when we hear this. We have learned better.
The Universal Gun Owner Calendar
Gun owners do not measure time normally.
They measure time by:
-
Hunting season
-
Range day
-
Ammo availability
-
When they last cleaned their firearms and when they should have cleaned them
“I will clean it tomorrow” is the most optimistic sentence in firearms ownership.
The Cleaning Kit That Could Supply a Small Army
Every gun owner owns:
-
Three cleaning kits
-
Five bottles of oil
-
Two bore snakes they cannot find
-
At least one tool they bought because someone online said it was “absolutely necessary”
The actual cleaning usually involves half of the supplies and a paper towel stolen from the kitchen.
“It Is Perfectly Zeroed”
This is always said with confidence. It is rarely correct.
Someone says this right before:
-
Missing the target
-
Adjusting the optic anyway
-
Explaining that the wind, lighting, or Earth’s rotation was the real problem
It is never the shooter. Never.
Gun Safes and the Laws of Physics
Gun safes defy known science.
They are always:
-
Too small
-
Too heavy
-
Somehow already full
A gun safe is the only object that shrinks once it enters your house. No matter how big it is, you will outgrow it faster than expected.
Range Bag Logic
A range bag always weighs exactly fifty pounds.
It contains:
-
Everything you might need
-
Nothing you actually need
-
Something you forgot last time and still forgot this time
You will not notice the weight until it is time to carry it back to the truck.
The Friend Who Knows Everything
Every group has one.
This person:
-
Knows every caliber ever made
-
Has strong opinions about all of them
-
Will tell you why your choice is fine but not what they would have chosen
They are usually right. They are always confident.
Why We Love It Anyway
For all the seriousness that comes with firearms, there is also camaraderie, tradition, and a shared understanding among people who respect the responsibility that comes with ownership.
At Lebeau Armory, we believe firearms culture should include education, safety, and yes, the ability to laugh at ourselves a little. Humor does not diminish responsibility. It reminds us that we are human.
Final Thought
Firearms demand respect, discipline, and accountability. They also create stories that get told over and over, usually starting with, “You are not going to believe this.”
If you cannot laugh at yourself while still taking safety seriously, you are doing it wrong.
If you can do both, you will fit right in at Lebeau Armory.
